Moose At My Doorsteps

I got a call at work from my wife:

-There is a moose at the door, what shall I do?

-Small one?

-No, its huge

-Doing what?

-Setting and chewing something

-Ah..

-So, what shall I do? call animal control?

-NO

-So what do you suggest?

-Get your phone and ......take a picture

That is so funny. When I used to fly into Anchorage I used to stay at a hotel near the local Islamic center, right near the airport. In the parking lot there was always about 3-4 moose in the evenings.

They might look nice, furry, but actually more people are killed by moose every year than bears. They can be more aggresive than bears, they are huge, often larger than most horses.

But I think most deaths are actually caused when people hit them in their cars. They stand very tall, 6' at the shoulders often. When you hit them in a car or a truck they tend to come flying right through the windscreen.

Have you had any encounters with bears yet? I see you have gone outdoors a lot. Nothing is more scary than turning a corner and seeing an 8 foot bear about 15 feet away. I have done that a few times.
