I Caught What Killed Steve Irwin!
It is the spine sticking out of this seemingly harmless creature that pierced the chest of the crocodile hunter.
I did not realise that this creature can be dangerous. The skin on the back is very rough. It is a struggle to pull on of these out. This one got released as I was disappointed to see it instead of the yummy halibut.

Halibut does taste good. Is the thing you caught even edible?
You name it and you will find someone eating it!
In Alaska Nobody eats it and it is catch and release. those things fight like crazy.
Elsewhere the wings are edible
Yeah, the natives ate porcupine where we were at.
When we went hunting for beaver we would come back with 4-5 of them usually, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds each.
We donated them to the local elders home, they love them.
I will cook this one and totally go for it :-)
