كانت بانتظار ابنها عند باب المدرسة كاي يوم أخر, لم تكن تتوقع او تنتظر اي امر أخر. كان هناك الكثير من الاباء والامهات لنفس الغرض. كان هناك رجلان ملتحيان وباثواب قصيرة في انتظار ابن احدهما. كان ذلك في احدى مدن اسبانيا. لاحظ الرجلان ملامحها التي دلت بوضوح على انها من مسقط راسيهما في المغرب. لم يستسيغا انها لم تكن محجبة. كان من الممكن ومن المنطقي ان ينتهي الامر عند هذا الحد ويعود الكل الى بيته مصطحبا ابنه اوابنته. لكن ذلك لم يحدث, على الاقل لم يحدث للسيدة ولا للرجلين اللذين برزت عليهما علامات التدين. هي انتهى بها المطاف بالمستشفى وقد انتهى بها الضرب المبرح التي تلقته على يد الرجلين الى اصابات نتج عنها فقدها لجنين انتظرت قدومه. اما بطلا الامر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر ففي انتظار قرار المحكمه.

برنامج تلفزيوني شبيه بكاش تاكسي, تثبت كاميرا خفية في تاكسي ويتحدث فيه السائق (مقدم البرنامج) مع ضيوفه الركاب في اي موضوع وهو مقتبس من برنامج امريكي . ركب في التاكسى رجل ملتحي ومعه زوجته المنقبة وكالعاده قام السائق بالحديث مع (الضيوف). بادرت السيدة المنقبة بالرد ففاجئها الزوج بصفعة على وجهها وسط دهشة السائق. فقد نسيت للحظة ان صوتها عورة وجاءت هذه الصفعة لتذكرها ان كلها عورة .. كلها دون استثناء.

Nothing efficient ...is very Efficient

Nothing efficient is the name of the band. I have strong feeling that the name was made up by my son Hesham. He was initially playing the Clarinet and he made it to the school advanced band. Then he decided to switch gears and learn Guitar. The clarinet was put aside to collect dust. Last summer he gave us the news that he formed a band, more precisely a rock band. The band was made of four, a lead guitarist Rocky, the Drummer Andrew, the Vocalist Jamar and the Bassist Hesham. They write their own music and they are pretty good. The band members are quite diverse in their ethnic origin. A vietnamese, an african american, a half american half hispanic and finally a middle eastern. They have attracted attention where ever they play.. I found myself attending all of their GIGS and with that I learned some of the lingo...(gigs for example!!). Today they had a gig in a car show. My first town hall meeting..

I have never attended a town hall meeting before. Few weeks age a colleague at work forwarded me an email that was sent to him and to all his church members asking them to attend this particular town hall meeting. In this meeting the city council will vote on permission to build a big islamic center in Saginaw. Similar email have circulated from the Jewish community here asking for attendance. No wonder I had to struggle for a parking space in the usually empty parking lot of the city hall. Finally I parked at the police station facing the hall (this would make it easy to pay the ticket if I get one!). I was few minutes late, the hall was jam packed as well as the corridors and there was few people outside. I guess they preferred the outdoors over hearing nothing in the corridors. I managed to sneak further in and I managed to hear the heated discussion. One of the city council members pointed out that there has never been such attendance in the history of the city!.. some one answered "put interesting agenda like this one and we will come!" a lot of people commented on the interesting topic..few voiced their objection; some claimed the the noise of the call for prayer will annoy them, others voice their concern that the city by permitting the Islamic center to be built at the proposed site will reduce the farm land and hurt the environment! One guy complained that the increased traffic expected with this center will make it hard from him to sleep as he is sure the headlight of cars entering and leaving the center will hit directly through his bedroom windows. One man even suggested to build a hill to surround the center and isolate it form the nearest neighborhood! another guy insisted on getting an answer regarding who many prayers a day in Islam and what time each one is conducted! One lady demanded a written contract that a microphone will not be used in the center!
And the finale of stupid comments came from a man who said the center is close to his house and that area has drainage problem and was wondering where would all the shit go with expected sharp increase in toilet use if the center is built!!
Americans are way more outspoken!! People in the middle east are more likely to shut up then show their ignorance..
If you noticed I referred to the comments above as "few voices" because the majority of Americans attended the meeting were there to support the Islamic center. The circulating emails that I talked about were a call for the church members and the Jewish community to attend and show support to build the Islamic center. Avery straight forward council women described the earlier comments as "shameful" and " you would not dare make the same comments if a church is being proposed" .
Finally it was time to vote.. all those in favor raise hands and say Ayyyyy.. all the city council members raised hands and all said "Ayyyyyyy"

الحلقة الاضعف

بوفاة سعيد النجاس وصلاح الحليبي وأسماء العود (رحمة اللة عليهم) بلغ عدد ضحايا فقرالدم المنجلي واحد وعشرون في عشرة أشهر.
معظم الضحايا كانو في ريعان شبابهم . عاشو حياة قصيرة. ورثوا الالم وكان رفيقهم الدائم الذي تمنوا فراقه. فكان الفراق ابديا. عانوا الحسرة والتمييز, لم ينصفهم احد. واكرر لم ينصفهم احد. لم ينصفوا على مقاعد الدراسة ولا في فرص العمل والزواج ولافي الرعاية الصحية.
وفي المجال الاخير فالمرضي واهاليهم لديهم من القصص مايندى له الجبين.
ومع كل تظلم وشكوى تكون النتيجة معروفة سلفا, لا تقصير"وكله تمام".
لا ننكر ان المرض يصاحبه مضاعفات خطرة قد تودي الى الوفاة حتى مع الرعاية االصحية المشددة. لكن الاكيد ان الاهمال هو الاخطر على حياتهم.
كم مريضا يتوجب موته لكي نقر بأن هناك مشكلة؟ وان الرعاية المقدمة "مش تمام"!
لكننا نفعل ما نحسن فعله عادة وندفن رأسنا في الرمال. فلم نوجع رأسنا بالبحث عن حلول ان لم تكن هناك مشاكل؟
لكن لغة الارقام لاتقبل الجدال فواحد وعشرون ضحية أمر لايمكن كنسه تحت سجادة. وهو يصرخ ان في الأمرخطاء. وفي كل مرة يتم البحث عن طبيب أخطا التشخيص او العلاج فلا يجدون وأحيانا يكون المريض هو المخطي فهو الذي لم يقبل (خوفا على حياته) سريرا في جناح لا يعرف ممرضوه عن مرضه شيا . أنهم يبحثون في المكان الغلط وبعقلية غلطَ.
المشكلة هي في النظام الصحي المقدم لمرضى السكلر والذي يراهم عبء و"عوار راس" ولا يمتلك رؤية او ادوات تصحح مساره فيتم تكرار نفس الاخطاء مرات ومرات.
تشكيل جمعية لمرضى السكلر وأهاليهم وانشاء موقع لهم على الانترنت تثير قضاياهم هي خطوة في الطريق الصحيح. ويجب تشكيل جماعات ضغط لتحسين الرعاية الصحية لمرضى السكلروتحسين فرصهم في العمل والحياة.

Tomatoes ..the honor system at work!

It caught my attention while driving my son to school. A cart with tomatoes for sale in the front yard of a house. The owner of the house plants these tomatoes in his back yard. So I made a stop on my way back home. Nobody was around and nobody is watching just you and the tomatoes with the price written on the side. There was a box to put the money and take change if needed. I picked 10 tomatoes and placed the money in the box .. which had money in it from previous buyers..It is working .. the honor system does work.

Just wondering if something like would work back home??

Commited..

I missed the orientation day for middle school. So next day I took my son to find out where his classes are located. During our tour we met old women using a walker to get by in the science class. There were 2 young girls with her and all of them were cleaning and decorating the science class. Talking to the nice lady, I found out that she is the mother of the science teacher and those lovely girls are her grand daughters. The whole family have been comming for the last 4 days to clean and decorate the class to make it ready for the student starting next week. People like them is what makes this country great.

Bye Buddy

We were all excited when we all went to the pet shop and got Buddy.. That is the name my son gave to the 10 wks old golden retriever puppy. For four days my kids were all over him. He is so cute that even my wife who never been close to dogs decided to join forces with my kids to give him a bath. It was fun having him, even though it meant more work for everybody especially he still has "accidents" indoors. Then something happen. My wife started itching, then developed congestion and tightness in the chest. Benadryl, atrax and claritin did not help and symptoms worsened. And finally we had to say bye for buddy.. Bye Buddy, you are missed already.

Gopher في بيتنا

في البداية كانت زوجتي فرحة, فقد رأت ما ظنته أرنبا يقفز في الحديقة ويتجول حول البيت. لكن حين رأيته تأكدت أنه لم يكن أرنبا, بل كان أشبه بالفار ولكنه بحجم القط. وقد اتخد له نفقا في مكان يصعب الوصول اليه.

brussel sprouts وقد بدأ في ازعاجنا.. فأكل اوراق نبتات الطماطم ثم أكل كل اوراق

كل تلك أمور صغيرة.. ألامر المزعج حقا هو قدرته على حفر مجموعة من الممرات والانفاق تحت الارض مما قد يؤدي الى تسرب المياة الى السرداب وأذا تم ذلك فتلك مشكلة كبيرة.

لا أعرف كيف أتخلص منه..

لم نره منذ مدة..ربما استجاب الله الى دعاء زوجتي وصدمته سيارة وانتهى الامر!!

ولد العبدة

شائت الظروف ان التقي به وكان مليئا بالحيوية والنشاط , لا اعلم كم عمره لكنه قد يكبرني باعوام قليلة.

كان في غاية التواضع وحين سألته ماذا تعمل أجاب: في الجامعة.

واتبعت اجابته بسؤال أخر: ماذا تعمل في الجامعة.. أجاب : رئيسا!!

لا ادري لماذا خطر في بالي رئيسا أخر لجامعة أخرى عندما كنت طالبا.. كان لايمشي دون بشت وحاشية..وفضل السكن في جناح كبير في فندق 5 نجوم بالمنطقة الدبلوماسية وترك الفيلا الفارهة المخصصة للرئيس خالية..وتاركا الجامعة تتكفل بالتكاليف في وقت كانت تعاني الجامعة من ضائقة مالية ادت الي تخلي الجامعة عن الحرم الجامعي وادت الي استيلاء جامعة أخرى على الجمل بما حمل.

نرجع الى صاحبنا.. أخدنا الحديث الى موضوع القبول في الجامعات.. وهو موضوع يهمني حيث بقيت سنتان على تخرج هشام من الثانوية.. تفاجئت بقوله: مع نتائجه الحالية ومع أسم عائلة ك"سلمان" لا مشكلة في قبوله في أي جامعة أمريكية!!

سألته : كيف ذلك.و ما علاقة أسم سلمان؟؟

أجاب: الجامعات تنظر الى موضوع التنوع في الطلبة بشكل جدي وتحرص على أن يكون فيها كوكتيل من مختلف الاعراق والثقافات والاديان فالتنوع يثرى الجامعات..

أعجبتني نظرتة.. وعدت بفكري من حيث أتيت.. من بلد ان كنت فيه مختلفا.. فأنت..ولد العبدة

هوم لس وفاعل خير

كان الثلج يتساقط , والبرودة تضرب في العظم عندما أتجهت نحو مكدوناكدز على غير عادتي لكن للجوع أحكام. وقبل دخولي المطعم أستوقفني رجل ينتفض من البرد وله هيئة "هوم لس" قائلا "اكسيوز مي.. بلييز..بلييز" . توقفت للحظة " أنا بردان..وأسكن في الشارع..هل بأمكانك ان تشتري لي كوفي؟".. أخرجت محفظتي وأعطيته دولارين.. وتبعني الى داخل مكدونالدز. طلب كوفي ودفع دولارين ..وعندما أعيد له 75 سنتا..أدخلها الى صندوق التبرعات لاعمال الخير!!!

حضيض أخر

لم تتمالك مقدمة النشرة الاخبارية في محطة أن بي سي 25 المحلية لوسط مشيجن من حبس دموعها وهي تقراء خبراستخدام الارهابيين في العراق أمراءتين مصابتين بمتلازمة داون في عملية تم فيها تفجير أحزمة ناسفة لفت حولهما في سوق مكتظ اسفر عن مقتل 60. وتم التفجير عن طريق التحكم من بعد.

كلما أعتقدنا انهم وصلوا الي قاع الحضيض فاجوؤنا بقاع أخر

عنوان يبط الجبد!!

طالعتنا صحيفة أخبار الخليج بخبر انتحار بحريني لمرورة بضائقة مالية وذكرت انه استخدم سلكا لهذا الغرض, وأنه قد سبق له ان حاول الانتحار وانه كان يتلقى علاجا نفسيا. هذا الخبر الحزين جاء تحت عنوان يفتقد الذوق ويسخر من الامر برمته "بحريني ينتحر على الطريقة الهندية"!!!

متى سننصفهم؟

مريض أخر في مقتبل عمره مصاب بالسكلر يفارق الحياة بعد توسل مرافقه لطبيب الطوارئ ورفض الاخير ادخاله المستشفى, وأكد الطبيب حسب قول المرافق ان ما يعاني منه المريض من قي واسهال ماهو الا مرض "يهال" لا يستدعي الدخول للسلمانية وطلب منه العودة به للبيت, لكن تقييم المرافق كان أدق من تقييم الطبيب فاخده لعيادة خاصة والتي بدورها استدعت الاسعاف لارجاعه لغرفة الانعاش بطوارئ السلمانية حيث اكد طبيب الطوارئ من جديد عدم حاجته لغرفة الانعاش وأخرجه منها ليعود اليها فاقدا للوعي وبعدها فاقدا للحياة.
وهذه ليست حالة منفردة بل حالة متكررة في بلد يعج بمرضى السكلر ويفترض ان يكون الاطباء فيه خبراء في تفاصيل هذا المرض ومضاعفاته, وليس التعامل مع المرض والمرضي قاصرا من الجوانب الطبية فقط بل اسواء من ذلك القصور في الجوانب الانسانية في معاملة المريض وأهله.
فقبل عدة أشهر قال طبيب طوارئ لزوجة مريض بالسكلر ردا على توسلها له بادخاله المستشفى لسوء حالته " هاذا مو هوتيل مال أبوك !!!" لتاخده مضطرة لمستشفى خاص الذي بدوره أعاده للسلمانية لسؤ حالته ومن ثم للعناية المركزة حيث انتقل الى رحمة الله.
متى سننصفهم , الى متي نصم أذاننا حتى لا يزعجنا صراخهم , والى متى نجعلهم يتوسلون ما هو حقهم, الي متى نعطيهم البنادول والايبوبروفين لتسكين اوجاع بالكاد يسكنها المورفين؟؟

The $700 tickets!

I don't think I will ever pay $700 for tickets to attend one sport event. But I will gladly accept it as a gift! It was a VIP seatings with crew parking.. I think my family will have a great time watching Detroit Pistons Vs New York Knicks.

When heat strikes

two days back it was unexpectedly hot in Michigan at this time of the year. It was 91 (32 C) and my car was parked in the sun. As I opened my car I saw my new GPS navigator on the ground with its touch sensitive screen shattered! Initially I thought someone must have opened my car and did this. But this did not make sense. So I believed what must have happened was the excessive heat caused the sucction cup holding the GPS system to fail dropping it and shattering its screen. The first time I used GPS was when I moved to Michigan 2 months ago. I ellected to add GPS to my rental car then. from first day of use I was in love with it. You just punch in the address and it takes you there! you need a restaurant, no problem it even asks you what kind and lists all the Mexican or italian restaurants close to you. It was quite helpfull with long trips. So to say the least I was quite unhappy with its quick domise. I called customer support to see they would cosider repairing it under warranty. Despite the clear statement that accidental dammage is not covered, they agreed to repair it as they considered it a failure of cup sucction.

I am waiting for it and already missing it.

أول أكسيد الكربون

طالعتنا الصحافة قبل أيام بخبر من عدة أسطر عن موت شاب في العشرين مختنقا ونجاة الفتاة من موت محقق من التسمم باول اكسيد الكربون نتج عن وجودهما معا في سيارة في كراج مغلق والسيارة شغالة من أجل التكييف.
لم يستوقف هذا الخبر أحدا ولم يفرد له مقال واحد في الصحافه, رغم أن هذا الأمر قد حدث قبل ذلك أكثر من مرة وفي كل مرة ينتهي بوفاة ألاثنين معا. ويعقب ذلك خليط غير مسبوق من الالم والحزن والحسرة و الكتمان والفضيحة وتنتقل التفاصيل همسا وتلميحا.
أرى انه من الواجب علينا جميعا التنبه لخطر التسمم بأول اكسيد الكربون وان نساهم جميعا في تثقيف شبابنا من هذا القاتل الصامت. والموضوع من الاهمية بمكان بحيث يجب الا يمر مرور الكرام. فالامر سوف يتكرر دون شك. أرى أنه يجب ان يدرج هذا الأمر ضمن امتحان السياقة مثلا.
وما يميز التسمم بهذا الغاز, أنه تسمم مخادع يتسرب ببطء دون رائحة أو طعم أو تهيح. ويلتصق بشدة بالهيموجلبين مزيحا الاكسجين ومانعا لنقله الى الجسم باكمله, ونقص الاكسجين يؤدي الى تسارع في معدل التنفس الذي بدوره يزيد من استنشاق الغاز مسببا زيادة في التسمم ونقصا اكبر في الاكسجين. ونقص الاكسجين عن الدماغ يودي الى فقدان الوعي ومعه تفقد فرصة النجاة من الموت.

Car Surfing

I got introduced to this term recently as I had to take care of a car surfer with bruised brain. This life thretening activity is usually done by teenagers who have lots of muscles and not much of brains. They will climb out the window while he car is moving and into the roof and will do their surfing thing. Usually they end in the Emergency room or in the ICU or even 6 feet under.
What's wrong with playing a real sport, watching a movie or god forbids reading a book?

Two Strong Men and a Truck

Over 3 days these men rapped everything in my house and I mean everything. They were like non stopable rapping machine. My 3 car garage looked like this in no time.

While I was trying to remember how I used to paint. This time I was going for the flight into Egypt into a small corner of what is left in my garage.

We Accept Pizza

I took the car for inspection; the charge as written on the their board is $35. She checked the car engine, fluids, did a test drive then handed the keys back saying "all is fine, you'r good"
I took my visa card out, but she said " no charge, it was a quick one"
"But you normally charge $35 for this"
" don't worry, bye"
I left, but returned next day at lunch time carrying 3 large Pizzas.
"You did not accept my VISA, but I am sure you will accept my Pizza"
"Yes we do" she answered with a big smile.

He is not coming back

She sat in her car in front of her home facing the bird cage that is now setting in the front yard empty with the door wide open. Her tears kept on coming as she cried in silence. Next to her was a UHAUL truck and a for sale by owner sign. She kept crying for her exotic bird that flew away as the cage was to be transported in the truck. She decided to keep the cage in the open filled with bird food with the door wide open. She hoped that her bird will come back. She cried more as time went by with no sign of the bird. It was the exact wrong time to lose the bird. She did not cry on losing the her house and now with the bird gone she could not take any more and tears kept on coming. Her dreams has shuttered and her life have spiralled so fast before she got a chance to come to terms with it. Few months ago life was good and she and her husband were enjoying their retirement living in this condo. Then he got sick with pain and fever. He was reluctant to see a physician as he has no insurance. The pain which he wished to just go away did not. It actually became worse. He had no choice but to see one. Nothing is wrong with you.. He was told, so he waited more. The pain got worse and became unbearable. He ended up in the emergency room. It turned out be a perforated appendix that is now complicated with abdominal abscess and sepsis. He ended up in the hospital with multiple surgeries to fix what could have been a simple problem. He recovered from his illness but he could not recover from hospital bills. He ended up clearing his accounts and now the condo is scheduled for foreclosure. الاسبوع الاول

في الاسبوع الاول من زيارتي للبحرين تفاجئت بان احد ما قام "مشكورا" برش سيارة الايجار "بدجت" بصبغة حمراء على مؤخرتها. و ربما أراد أن يطمنني أن ألامر ليس شخصيا.. حتى لا أغرق في افكار ووساوس لا أساس لها على شاكلة "من يكرهني ويبغي يشربكني ويا بدجت"..فقد قام بفعل الامر ذاتة في سيارة جارنا وعلي مؤخرتها أيضا. كان الامر كلة على بعضه مزعج. أتصلت بصاحب صديق أشكو له ما حل بالسيارة . وصاحبي هذا خدوم وذو علاقات واسعة ويعرف نص البحرين. وقد عرفت ذلك من أول خمس دقائق معه في السيف مول (سلامات من كل صوب وانا لايعرفني أحد!)..أخبرني بعد أن تحسبن علي من رش أنه سيعاود الاتصال ومعه الحل في عشر دقائق. و قبل العشر أتصل ان الحل وصل, فقد أتصل بشركة زيبارت ولديهم من الكيماويات والمهارات ما يقلع الرش ويبفي اللون الاصلي والتكلفة بعد المعاينة. وأقترح أن يأتيني ويصحبني شكرتة وأثرت الانتظار.
دققت الباب على جارنا حجي جاسم فردت الخادمة أنه نائم ..الساعة وحده الظهر! ان للمتقاعدين سوالف!
بعد ساعتين رن جرس الباب فكان نص الجيران على الباب يتقدمهم حجي جاسم (بعد ماشبع نوم) وبعد الحديث عن كيف كان (الفريج) وكيف أصبح بعد ان ابتلشنا بمحل البليارد..وأضاف حجي جاسم " اجتمع كل لوفرية مدينة عيسى في فريجنا والسبة هالمحل" و أضاف جار أخر "كتبنا عريضة ووقع عليها الفريج..بس ماحد عطانا وجه" ..
هنا وجدت من المناسب أن انتقل الى المفيد "كلمنا شركة زيبارت ويقدرون يطيرونه, بس ماقالو بكم"
فرد حجي جاسم "أي زيبارت!! خل عنك هالحجي.. الموضوع كلة كاز بروبية ونص من الخباز"
سألته "متأكد؟ اللون الأصلي ما يخترب"
"أكيد ..واسأل مجرب (وهنا أشار لنفسه) ولا تسأل طبيب (وهو يشير لي ويضحك)"
عملا بنصيحة حجي جاسم توجهت الى الخباز وحملت معي غرشة أجار فارغة " عبدالرحمن.. عطني كاز بروبية في الغرشة".."مايصير ابيعك كاز.. ممنوع.. بس اذا تجيب جولة (وابور كاز) ابيعك"
تذكرت قرار منع الخبازين من بيع الكاز الذي صدر من الداخلية في التسعينات مع تزايد استهداف الشرطة والمحلات بالقنابل الحارقة..ويبدوا أن القرار لم يسقط رغم الميثاق والمصالحة. أني أرى أن بقاء هذا الحظرهو غير مبرر ويجب ان يسقط لنفتح عهدا جديدا يكون الكازمتوفرا للمواطن مثل الخبر من الخباز.
بالطبع لم أخد بنصيحة الخباز فالبحث عن جولة أمر غير مجدي . كما انها تكنولوجيا ميتة مثل شريط البتاماكس. ذهبت الى محطة مدينة عيسى وترست غرشة الاجار باربع انات ومثل ما قال المجرب طار الرش واللون الاصلي لم يتأثر

قرأت مقال فريد عيسى المنشور في جريدة الوقت وفي مدونته حول الطبوب والاحجبة

وحول أحجبة أتضح انها تحمل عبارات لا تخلو من الطرفة.

وأضيف هنا.. أن صاحب بقرة ذهب الى الملا يطلب حجابا لبقرته التي توقف ادرار حليبها, فأعتذر مبينا أن ذلك لايجوز ولا ينفع. ولكن صاحب البقرة أصر ورفض الذهاب دون حجاب يحل الموضوع. وتحت اصراره كتب له حجابا وعلقه على رقبة البقرة فجاء الحليب مدرارا. وأثارت فعالية الحجاب الفضول لفتحه وحينها وجدوا فيها عبارة" ان حلبت من الله... ما حلبت جهنم

Cleanup

It is cleanup time!
Now the snow has melted, the not very pretty surface uncovered. Over the long winter months, garbage accumulated on the sidewalks and and more snow covered it all. The snow is a beautiful cover to any city. And the pure white covers it all.
Over the last 2 weeks, a very active and a very dedicated groups of volunteers of all ages have been cleaning up the city sidewalks and Parks. Those are people from different backgrounds and professions. You can see the whole family volenteering including little kids. This is a yearly event in Anchorage around this time.
My son Ali (12yrs), along with all the 6th graders in his class, will start today a 3 day cleanup "project" for Campbell Creek Park. He is getting ready with work gloves and and a lunch box like any hard working volenteer.

في اجتماع لجمعية عمومية تم التوصل الى أهم القضايا التي تستوجب العمل الدؤوب من قبل الجمعية ونوابها. وجاء ترتيب القضايا حسب أهميتها للوطن والمواطنين وهي كالتالي

- العمل على مسائلة وزير الاعلام وطرح الثقة

-العمل على تطبيق الشريعة وقطع الايدي والارجل من خلاف

-العمل الدؤوب للسماح للعسكريين بأطلاق اللحى

-انشاء كلية للبنات

وبهذا تنتهي كل قضايا الوطن والمواطنيين والى اللقاء في اجتماع جمعية عمومية أخر

موت دماغي

أستوقفني الخبر المنشور في الصفحة الأولى من صحيفة الوقت عن أتخاد الاجراءات لنقل المصاب عباس الشاخوري لالمانيا لتلقي العلاج على نفقة الدولة. وسبب توقفي عند هذا الخبر هو التناقض بينه وبين ما جاء في الصحافة منذ أن وقعت جريمة الخسة واستقرت رصاصة غادرة في رأس عباس . حيث نشرت الصحافه ان المصاب قد توفى دماغيا حسب ماوردهم من مستشفي السلمانية. وقد رفض مستشفى سعد التخصصي استقبال المصاب لعدم وجود ما يمكن تقديمه طبيا لعلاجه. ولكن قبول المستشفى الالماني لاستقبال المريض هو ما يبعث على الاستغراب. فالمتعارف عليه طبيا ان موت الدماغ هو الموت. ومتي ما تقرر موت المريض دماغيا فالامر منتهي وعادة ما يتم اصدار شهادة الوفاة مع استكمال اعادة الفحص السريري المؤكد للموت الدماغي ويتم ايقاف جيمع اجهزة الدعم الحيوي, ويكون التـأخير في هذا الاجراء لسببين الأول هو تبرع الأهل بالاعضاء أو انتظار وصول الاهل قبل ايقاف الاجهزة. واعلان الوفاة هنا ليست مرهونة اومحددة باستمرارالقلب في النبض. أذا من الناحية الطبية يجب ان يعلم الجميع ان الموت الدماغي هو الموت. وليس مع الموت ان وقع طب او جراحة. ويجب ان يتخد الاطباء مواقف محددة, واضحة وصريحة. أعلم ان الموضوع مشحون بالكثير من الحسابات لكن بالنسبة لي حين يتأكد الموت السريري ينتهي الأمر والحسابات المتبقية هي اجراءات التبرع بالاعضاء واجراءات الوفاة. أن رفض مستشفى سعد استقبال المريض هو موقف سليم من الناحية الطبية, وقبول مستشفى أخر بما رفضه الاول يثير احتمالين: الاول ان المستشفى المذكور يهتم بما سيتقاضى من رسوم مع معرفته ان من سيدفع هو دولة قادرة على الدفع. أما الأخر فهو ان المستشفى لم يصدق بما أتى في التقريرالطبي أوان الصحافة لم تتحقق مما نشرته عن موت المريض دماغيا. ولمعرفتي بمن يدير العناية المركزة في مستشفي السلمانية فاني أولا اثق في مقدرتهم وكفائتهم في تشخيص الموت الدماغي. و ارى ان ابتعاث المريض ماهو الا لفتة متأخرة جدا كمن يلعب بعد انتهاء الوقت الضائع. فلم تنصفه وزارة الداخلية وهو في سجن التسعينات ولم تنصفه وزارة التربية بسعيه للعودة لمقعد المدرسة بعد سجنه ولم يهتم به أحد في سعيه للعمل فأنتهى المطاف به سائقا في النهار وحارسا في الليل. وأخيرا جاء الاهتمام لكنه جاء متأخرا ومتاخرا جدا.

ثلاثة طلاق

تابعت برنامجا في فضائية أبوظبي حول ازدياد حالات الطلاق في الخليج حتى أصبحت حالة طلاق كل 3 دقائق و52 ثانية. ومازاد الطين بلة الفتوى بجواز الطلاق عن طريق الملتيمديا, فكل وسائل الاتصالات أصبحت مقبولة بشكل أصبح أدعى للسخرية. فبعد الطلاق بالتلفون جائنا الطلاق بالتكست مسج ومن ثم وصل الأمر الى الطلاق بالرسائل المطبوعة على الفضائيات. وقد استضاف مقدم البرنامج محامية أقترحت أن يسن قانون يمنع استخدام "وسائل الطلاق الحديثة" وتقترح ان يعاقب من يستخدمها, وذلك في محاولة للف والدوران على أصل الموضوع. بعد ذلك تحدث مفتي الاوقاف وأبدى تأسفه من السفه في استخدام الرجل لحق التطليق, وأثنى على مقترح المحامية, لكنه أكد ان الطلاق يتم بكل الوسائل التي ذكرت. وحينها سأله مقدم البرنامج "لم لا يتم تضييق التطليق حيث لايتم الا أمام القاضي؟" أجاب مستنكرا "ولكن هذا رأي الشيعة!!!" وانتهى النقاش

محاكم تفتيش

أعلن رئيس لجنة التحقيق عفوا محكمة التفتيش البرلمانية لربيع الثقافة النائب أبراهيم بوصندل ان التحقيق لن يقتصرعلى الرقصات التي قدمت بل سيشمل القصائد الشعرية والنصوص المصاحبة لها’’ مما لايدع مجالا للشك في النية المبيته للنيل من بعض ما تبقى من حرية راي. فما قاله الشاعر على لسان ابن وحش قد يصبح الدليل الساخن الذي يؤكد فجوره الذي أذا ترك دون لجنه تلجمه قد يستشري وحينها يعلم الله ما قد يجر ذلك من انهيار للقيم والاخلاق! وكون النص دخل عامه الخامس عشر منذ صدوره لا يعني أنه لم يعد ساخنا بل هو لدليل اخر على ان فجور صاحبنا قديم وأنه لم يتوب أو يطلب المغفرة بعد.. وأرى انه دليلا على اننا لانقراء وأذا قرائنا لا نفهم وأذا فهمنا لا نعمل وأذا عملنا لا نتقن والقائمة تطول.

الامر الاخر هو "اخيرا أتفقوا" فلم يعد المجلس المنقسم منقسما حين وصل الامر الى تكميم الافواة ونأمل ان يظل الاتفاق قائما حين تطرح الامور الشائكة المؤجلة حتى اجل غير معلوم

شاعر المليون..شكرا

لست من هواة شعر النبط.. ولم أكن متابعا لبرنامج شاعر المليون الذي قدمته فضائية أبوظبي, بل كنت منزعجا من الرسائل المطبوعة في أسفل الشاشة وهي تدعو أهالي القبائل لنصرة شاعرهم. فقد وجدت في ذلك تكريس لما هو مكرس اصلا من مناطقية وقبلية. لكن يوم أمس وأنا أتجول بين المحطات استقرت جولتي على البرنامج في حلقته الأخيرة, وأعلن القطري محمد بن فطيس فائزا بالمليون. والى هنا والأمر أعتيادي. لكنه قبل استلام الشيك الكبير شكلا و محتوى, أعلن أنه قد تبرع بنصفه لأطفال قطر ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة والنصف الاخر لأطفال فلسطين.. شاعر المليون شكرا

8th Graders Greatest Lesson

While visiting Michigan, I got introduced to a middle school counsellor. She told me this story about the 8Th grade class in her school. An 8th grader lost his sight due to retinal detachment. So he needed to switch to Braille writing method. The whole 8th grade class decided to learn Braille writing method as a way to show their support. The school district supported their choice and Braille was introduced to the whole class!

It is a great lesson, this time given to us, all of us by the 8th graders.

في زيارة لي مع العائلة لولاية ميشجن في أجازة الربيع (على الرغم من عدم رؤيتنا للربيع بعد فلا يزال الثلج سيد الساحة) تصادف اقامة حفل غنائي للفنانة نانسي عجرم في ديترويت, وعلى الرغم من ان موقع الحفل يبعد اكثر من 100ميل فان ذلك لم يكن مانعا.. نانسي كما كان متوقعا لمت عرب ديترويت واطربتهم..ورددو معها أه ونص.. وثلاثة أرباع

وأنتهى الحفل بسلام دون حرق اطارات ودون احتجاجات وعاد الجميع بسلام

Plumber..who needs him

It started with counter tops not looking really nice.. as nice is defined as granite and it was not.So, I get it replaced with granite. With a new counter tops, why not a new faucets. Oh, a new and deeper sinks would complete the mission. So, I needed a plumber to do the job. He fixed the faucet fine but did a sloppy job with the garbage disposal. The charge was $350; $60 to come to the house and then $80/hr . It took only one week and it started leaking. I decided to fix it myself with duck tape, after all duck tape in Alaska fixes everything. A friend of mine used it to fix his car after an accident! It worked for some time then leaked again, so my answer was more of the good stuff; more duck tape, but it leaked again. This time my wife had it with the leak and demanded a plumber. I strongly disagreed. What is it a plumber can do that I can't? So I headed to Home Depo a got an assortment of plastic pipes and headed to work. One and half hour of connecting and disconnecting pipes paid off. NO LEAK, Not A DROP. I was proud of my first plumbing job with total cost of $16.

12 inches Too Long!

لقد انهيت لتوي من فراءة الكتاب, وقد استغرقت يومين في قراءته وأسعفني في ذلك طول السفرة من الاسكا. بالطبع نحن لسنا بحاجة لكارتر ليوضح لنا في كتابه مايعانيه اخواننا في فلسطين, فمعاناتهم أصبحت محفورة فينا. لكن أهمية الكتاب تأتي من مكانة كاتبه. وقد فتحت ابواب جهنم عليه بعد نشره, واستقال اربعة عشر مستشارا من مركز كارتر احتجاجا على ماجاء به من أنصاف في حق الفلسطينين. وقامت ضده حرب شعواء واطلقت عليه النعوت . وفي كتابه يسرد بعض من يومياته وبعض من تحليلاته فيما يختص بام القضايا. و يبدو أن التغيير جاء بعد فشله في تجديد ولايته على خلفية ازمة الرهائن وانصرافه الي الاهتمام بالقضايا الدولية الساخنة من دون موقعه الرسمي. وقد قام بعدة زيارات الي الاراضي المحتلة والتقلى بالعديد من الفلسطينين واستمع الي قصصهم والامهم. وكل انتهاك له مايفسره من الطرف الاخر, فهم لايعدمون عذرا, فالشاحنات المحملة بالفواكه الفلسطينية تترك لايام على الحدود حتي تتلف امعانا في افقارهم فياتي التفسير أنهم يحتاجون لايام للتاكد من خلو الشاحنات من الاسلحة. وهكذا فان كل انتهاك يصله من خلال لقاءاته ويناقشه مع السلطات الاسرائيلية يقدمون له من المببررات ما لم ينزل الله به من سلطان. ولعل هذه المبررات تفوقت على نفسها في قضية سيارات الاسعاف ذات التجهيز العالي التي تبرعت بها دول اوربية لمستشفي في الاراضي المحتلة. فهذة السيارات ظلت تراكم الغبار دون استعمال رغم الحاجة لها التي لا تخفى على أحد. وحين راجع كارتر المسؤولين حول عدم سماح السلطات الاسرائيلية باستخدام سيارات الاسعاف تفاجاء بأم المبررات: طول الشاصي 12 انتشا اكثر مما يجب

I had it with Anna Nicole Smith!

One thing that I missed during the vacation was the news. At first I thought it would be a real vacation from the headache that come with the news. But two days later I started searching for the news on CNN and Fox but all what was there was Anna Nicole Smith tragic death and the court proceedings with a strange judge for where to bury her. Finally, she is going to be buried in the Bahamas next to her son. Her story can be summarised by a pretty blond with no much education or class who goes into modeling, gets married to a 100yrs old billionaire. Guess what would 100 yr old man do next, yes you guessed right, he dies. So she gets into court for the inheritance and come out only 500 million richer. And what would 500 million do to a young blond, pretty and stupid woman? In her case it first killed her son with drug overdose then killed her most likely in the same manner. Now, what makes her story circus is the fact that 6 men are claiming to be the father of her 6 month old baby. Interestingly, including someone who has been in prison for the last 2 yrs. The fact he was in prison did not stop him from claiming parenthood as he claimed that he gave a "sample" to Nicole prior to his incarceration which she could have frozen and used it later!

So major TV channels were digging into every detail and interviewing everybody and anybody day and night about the subject. CNN even had a report on " could your fridge be a window to your personality" in which they reviewed what was in Anna Nicole fridge when she died and its significance!

I just had it with the story, but switching to other channels does not help. I missed Aljazeera, Al Arabiya and endless arguments on the Lebanese channels. For now switching off the TV and enjoying the nice sunny weather of Florida is the way to go.

Disney Vacation

With the wind blowing hard in Anchorage and temperature dropping to 30 below with the wind chill, I could not have chosen a better time to escape and spend 9 days in Orlando. My wife was so happy that she could finally walk without getting frozen. The kids were excited for visiting Disney and more so for skipping school!
It was a time well spent.

I Caught What Killed Steve Irwin!

It is the spine sticking out of this seemingly harmless creature that pierced the chest of the crocodile hunter.

I did not realise that this creature can be dangerous. The skin on the back is very rough. It is a struggle to pull on of these out. This one got released as I was disappointed to see it instead of the yummy halibut.

Pilot says it time for take off
Toddlers screaming their heads off
They scream because they decide not to wear there seat belt
After your 2 hour delay thanks to delta
you wait 10 more minutes from the foolishness from the kids
Take off comes you chew your gum faster and faster
To prevent the popping ears while take off
You also get a head ache not from the flying but from the baby a seat in front of you
You moan you snarl while the baby cries and cries
The seats are uncomfortable economy class is to blame
You beg for an upgrade to business class
While your face is crushed against the window from the Fat Man
The air is stale like breathing in a bathroom in a 40 year old broken down desolate house.
The food finally comes you hope it’s edible then question pops up chicken or pasta
I choose the pasta
Tastes like rubber you tell your self its still food
Now you’re on your 12th hour of flying you try to sleep
you try but you never manage
Once you reach your final destination your week gets ruined
because of one thing flying jet lags the worse part of all

I took my snow thrower to the tire place as one of the tires got deflated and slipped out of the rim and my attempts to inflate it back in position failed.

PS3..It is Here

My kids were very excited when PS3 was released, but I wouldn't spend the night waiting in line in front of Best Buy in the freezing wheather to get it. Well, those who got it did exactly that. Next day the salesman at best buy gave me a weird look when I asked if any PS3 are available. Several weeks passed by and no PS3 available anywhere. So the kids settled for the Wii. I thought that would actually suit me quite well as the Wii is half the price of PS3. So I headed to the store and there it was. A new shipment of PS3 arrived that day and 5 remaining. I grabbed one and headed home to the excited kids. I am not a video games fan but this thing rocks.

لقي طفل بحريني يبلغ من العمر 12 عاما مصرعه عصر أمس وذلك بعد ان هوى من علو ثلاثة طوابق أثناء قفزه من احد أسطح العمارات في العدلية.وكان الطفل يحاول القفز إلى سطح عمارة مجاورة اعتاد وزملاؤه القفز منها واليها إلا انه فقد توازنه وسقط يوم أمس ما أدى إلى وفاته في موقع الحادث على رغم جهود إسعاف مجمع السلمانية الطبي لإنقاذ حياته حيث تعرض لنزيف داخلي وإصابة بليغة في الرأس. هذا وقد بدأت شرطة أمن العاصمة تحقيقا في ملابسات وفاة الطفل

أنتهى الخبر.. ومعه انتهت حياة طفل في مغامرة لا معنى لها, ولا طائل ورائها وأنتهت بمأساة.

وما يغيض أن مغامرة القفز الأخيرة لم تكن الاولى بل كانت الاولى التي فشلت. ومعها فشلت محاولة أنقاده

أين الأهل من هذه اللعبة

وهل نحتاج لمأساة تذكرنا بابجديات المسؤولية؟

Winter in Ramadan

I was surprised when Ali told me that they are working on two Ramadan songs in the 6th grade Orchestra; Winter in Ramadan and El Hawa Fi Ramadan. He asked if I know them, I shock my head. I told Him I know Ramadan Gana (here it comes Ramadan) but he was not iterested in that one.

In the same week, Hesham came with lots of 9th grade homework about Hajj, an assignment to conclude commandments for muslems from 24 Quran verses and prophet last speech . It was a good apportunity for me to work with him and discuss issues that we seldom talk about in a structured way. Anchorage school district; thank you.

And One More Trophy

I just Came from Baltimore, MD where I played in the biggest table tennis tournment in North America: 2006 Stiga North America Team Open. 144 tables, over 250 teams, over 1000 players competing in huge convention center for 3 days. Teams from China, Canada, Hungary, Trindad and Barbados to name few. And one player from Bahrain. The teams were devided into 14 groups based on ranking and the results of the first day. I played for the Alaskan Team at devision 6. We managed to get to the finals were we played (at the red carpet) and came 2nd. On the table next to us the chinese teams were playing for 1st devision finals for prize of $10,000.

One More Board..

Today the results of the Pediatric Critical Care Board exam should be emailed. I did the exam in August and had to wait till Nov. 30 th for the results. I have been checking my email every 30 min since morning, but nothing emailed. Finally, I decided to log on to the source, that is the American Board of Pediatrics and there it was.. PASS. Not only that but I scored 570 while I needed only 400 to pass. One more thing .. the results were posted on Oct. 31st.. I passed a month ago and nobody told me.

With this latest (and final) addition the list of my degrees will as follows:

Recess at 20 below

Today my son Ali gave me a vivid description of what they go through every day in the school at recess. Recess is supposed to be the favorite of every one, right? Wrong, It is not if it is outdoors at below 20 (with wind) with hard icy ground. "We huddled like penguins!" Added Ali. I laughed; I thought that was funny and clever analogy. Obviously, I realized that shouldn't have been my first response. I watched the movie (The March of the Penguins) and since then I have lots of respect and admiration to all the Penguins. Back to the recess; they will continue to have it outdoor except if it goes below 30 or the school gets visited by a bear or an angry moose.

رجل المواقف الصعبة

لم أكن أتوقع من أحد , أي أحد أن يصف النائب ( المصيبة) السعيدي بأنه رجل المواقف الصعبة . هذا ما تفتق عنه رئيس المجلس النيابي السابق في وصف كامل الأوصاف. هذا بحد ذاته خير دليل على كم كانت مصيبتنا كبيرة في ما سبق. ولم يكتفي بذلك بل أضاف أن حضوره فعاليات السعيدي الانتخابية هو عرس ديموقراطي ودليل مستقبل ديموقراطي باهر ووحدة وطنية صادقة. وفي ذات السياق أكد السعيدي فقال: أنا لا أفرق بين أي طائفة في البحرين.
ولعله في تلك اللحظة نسى أو تناسى حين رفع يديه الي السماء بعد ان صلى على نبي الأمة داعيا المولى عبر مكبر الصوت أن يمحق اليهود والنصارى والروافض. وقد يكون صادقا أذا كان يقصد أنه لا يفرق بين "طائفة" المنبر والاصالة..
الخامس والعشرين من الشهر هو امتحان لأهل الرفاع أتمنى نجاحهم فيه.

وجع في خيمة انتخابية

في أفتتاح خيمته الانتخابية لم يبخل علينا ابراهيم شريف بما اوجعنا و ادمانا. فثلاثون عاما نامت فيها نواطيرها عن ثعالبها لم تبق ولم تذر. فلم تبقى أرض الا وسرقت. ولم يكتفي بتشديده هذه الحقيقة بل ترجمها الى ارقام اضافت ملحا على الجرح , فما تم الاستيلاء عليه بلغت قيمته 23 مليار دينار و هو ما يعادل ميزانية البحرين لثلاثين عاما!
وعاد الصياغة بقوله لو حول المبلغ للدولار لكان كافيا لخلق ستين الف مليونير جديد بدلا من الستين الف معوز.
وكأن "العطية" لمن لايستحق لم تكن لتكفي فجاء الاسترجاع "عطية" أخرى. فمن أسترجعت الارض "المسروقة" منه أستلم تعويضا بلغ خمسة أضعاف سعرها.
ومن لايعجبه الوضع فليشرب ماء البحر… مهلا.. قد لايكون الأمر بهذه السهولة , فالسواحل هي الأخرى تم أستملاكها أو تم أهداؤها , وتهادوا تحابوا. والبحر لم يسلم.

BLOCKED

Mahmood's Den has been blocked by Bahrain Ministry of Information for "violation of press lows". Mahmood is the "godfather " for bloggers in Bahrain and if I am not mistaken his website has one of the highest traffic in the blogsphere. Mahmood is well known among the bloggers in the region and he is known to speak his mind. His blog covers all aspects of daily life and when there is a hot topic, be sure it is there. He had been very critical of the previous parlimant and sat up a countdown to boot them out.
Recently he has been critical of the handling of Bandergate. So I am not sure which one of the two topics made them sign the block order.

This block is one of several steps backwords in the island that is aspiring to have an image of demorcatic changes. I am sure this stupid move will back fire and will generate negative puplicity that will not be limited to Bahrain. Beside it will not work, as there is nothing easier than viewing a blocked site. A smart guy like Mahmood can teach them a lesson in bypassing blocks and he is doing it right now.

Eid Prayer at Spenard Recreation Center, Anchorage, Alaska.

One good thing that took place this year is the merger of the two mosques in Anchorage. The prayer was held in the main Gym and followed by plenty of food and fund raising to build a mosque. I gave my kids few hrs off school to take them to the prayer.

النائب الفلتة

هو فلتة من فلتات الزمان. هو فارس من الفرسان. هو قادم بكل قوة للبرلمان.
لانحتاج للكثير من التمحيص, فكل اناء بما فيه ينضح.. والذي في الجدر يطلعه الملاس.. ففي أول تصريح له بعد أن نق المئتين دينار وأصبح من ضمن المترشحين, أعرب عن برنامجه الانتخابي الذي لم يحتوي على الكثير وأكتفى بقوله أنه "حكومي" و بصيم ولا يؤيد الجمعيات والاحزاب و يؤيد الحكومة في كل شيئ. ويصف نفسه بالمجرب والذي سعت عدة جمعيات لضمه لكنه التزم بمبدأه فهو كما أسلفنا "حكومي ويفتخر". بقى أن نذكر أن المرشح هو قادم لنا من محافظة ولادة للفطاحل, فقد منت علينا بالسعيدي ولن تبخل علينا بفطحل أخر.

حرصت على متابعة حلقة هذا ألاسبوع, حيث انقضت حلقة الاسبوع الماضي دون الاجابة عن سؤال حكم الشرع في شفط وبلع اللعاب اذا سال في شهر الصوم. وجاء الجواب ان الشرع فيه سعة لكنه في غير صالح الشفط والبلع , فمتى سال اللعاب وخرج عن الفم فالأحوط أستخدام الكلينكس.

بعد الجولة المعتادة في الفضاء الافتراضي وبعد المرور اليومي بالصحف اليومية والمدونات, عرجت على ملتقى البحرين ومنه عن طريق رابط الى منتدى أخر ليتني ما ضللت طريقي اليه. هو أسمه منتديات بحريني , ولكنه ليس بحريني على مايدعو اليه عزيزنا محمود اليوسف بازراره البراقة "بس بحريني" أنه بحريني هو فقط وبس ونص.. اما من لايشبهونهم في لهجة أو منطق أو طول لحية أو قصر ثوب أو قلة عقل فلهم أسمان أحدهم جديد على مسمعي.. هم روافض والجديد قوارض. يعني من فصيلة الفئران, ويبدو أن رواد المنتدى قد أعتادو على استخدام هذا التوصيف عند الحديث عن طائفة باكملها. ولا أرى خطرهذا التنابز محصورا في الاهانة والتحقير بل هو في خلق جو من الكراهية والحقد لن يظل محصورا في فضاء الانترنت ولن يقتصر التعبير عنه في مشاركات سمجة على المنتدى المذكور, بل قد تتعداه الى اقصاء الاخر بل والغاءه . فعندما تكون رسالة المنتدي ان اكثرمن نصف البحرين هم من فصيلة الفئران فما المانع ان تدوس فأرا.

على فضائية دبي في البرنامج الديني "واسألوا أهل الذكر" حيث يتصل المشاهدون بأسلتهم , تفاجئت بسؤال غريب , فالسائل لم يعد يصبر والموضوع أقلقه واتصل على البرنامج لمعرفة رأي الشرع.
وبعد التحية والسلام دخل في الموضوع

اثناء الصلاة في الشهر الفضيل يسيل من فمي بعض اللعاب , فما هو حكم الشرع في ذلك؟ وهل شفط وبلع اللعاب يبطل الصيام؟

أنتهى السؤال.. و حيث ان مقدم البرنامج يستقبل مجموعة من الأسئلة ثم يتم الاجابة عليها حسب تسلسلها.. لم يحالفنا الحظ في معرفة رأي الشرع وعلينا الانتظار الى حلقة الاسبوع القادم حيث أنتهى وقت البرنامج.

بين دلاس والسلمانية

في مستشفى مركز دلاس للاطفال كانت العناية المركزة تحتل قسما غير بسيط من الطابق الثاني . وفي مركز السلمانية يحتل قسم العناية المركزة قسما بسيطا من الطابق الثاني أيضا . قالأول بسعة 45 سريرا مقسمة على عناية مركزة عامة وعناية للاصابات وعناية للقلب , أما العناية المركزة بالسلمانية فتسع 11 سريرا فقط ولا مجال لتقسيمها مما جعل دخول العناية لمن حالفه الحظ أو ساندته التوصيات.
وفي كلا المركزين تبين عدم اتساع الوحدتين لاستيعاب المرضى فكان لابد من التوسع. وفي كلا الحالتين كان التوجه أفقيا. في دلاس كما في السلمانية كان المستشفى مكون من 6 طوابق في جانب من طابقين من جانب اخر. وفي االسلمانية جانب اخر مكون من طابق واحد. دعونا ننظر ماذا تحقق في كلا المشروعين حيث انه توافق ان التفكير والتخطيط كان في نفس الفترة الزمنية . في دلاس توسع المشروع لاقامة برج يضيف 12 طابق على الجانب المكون من طابقين حيث يشغل قسم العناية المركزة طابقين اضافيين. وقد زرت المركز مؤخرا بعد أن اكتمل.
أما السلمانية فكان الطموح محدودا لاقامة عناية مركزة تتسع ل 30 سريرا تقام على الجانب ذو الطابق الواحد. وبعد طول شد وجدب واثارة للموضوع في الصحافة وفي البرلمان وبعد استقالات وتوجيهات عليا تم ادراج المشروع وخصصت الاموال. ويا فرحة ماتمت.. فالتقرير الفني أشار ان الاساسات لا تحتمل أضافة طابق أخر!
يعني الاساس مسوى على قد الحال.. ولا تقول بتزيد طابوقة!

نشكو من المعايير المزدوجة فقظ حين لاتخدم مصالحنا. وأذا كنا الطرف الاقوى لا نتوقف لحظة واحدة لاستدراك ازدواجية المعايير.
هي حادثة بالتأكيد ليست الأولى ولن تكون الأخيرة ولا ألاسلوب المذل جديد هنا. فكل ما تم قد تم من قبل فلا جديد تحت الشمس . و من لا يملك فلسا لا يساوي فلسا.

خادمة فلبيية هربت من بيت مخدومها بالقفز من نافذة بالطابق الثاني ولجائت الى سفارة بلدها. واشتكت انها اغتصبت مرارا و تكرارا من قبل الكفيل. وقد تقدم الكفيل بطلب يدها للزواج من المسؤلين بالسفارة حيث عبر عن غرامه و كلفه بها وكفانا الله شر القتال. لكن الخادمة رفضت طلبه " لا أريد الزواج منه , اريد الرجوع الى بلدي" . تاهت ولقيناها..أذن الموضوع بسيط.. وليش نعقدها وهي محلولة. لك ما أردت . تذكرة ذات اتجاه واحد وستين دينار على سبيل التعويض وانتهى الموضوع. لا شرطه, لا وجع راس ولا محاكم. فالمعتدى عليها هي خادمة "لا راحت ولا جت" . ولولا فضول صحيفة محلية بلغة أجنبية لما سمع عنها أحد.هل رأيتم كم هي بسيطة .. و بالنسبة للفحوص الطبية تحليل بول للحمل بدينارين جائت نتيجته سلبية سهلت الأمور وابعدت وجع الرأس. الخادمة في طريقها الي الفلبين وعشرات غيرها في طريقهم بالاتجاه الاخر لا يعلمن ما ينتظرهن

Trick or Treat

Last year in a September weekend, we noticed kids in costumes going from house to house trick or treating. I thought few neighbors decided to have early Halloween for fun. Later I came know that a 5 year old kid in our neighborhood was losing his battle to leukemia. Knowing he might not survive to Halloween, they decided to bring Halloween to him and invited few neighbors along. The kid had great time going from one house to the next collecting candy. Few weeks later he died.
A year later the parents contacted everybody including me to have a bigger early Halloween for the whole neighborhood and for all the kids to enjoy in memory of their son. They used this occasion for fund raising for charities helping families and kids dealing with cancer. The evening rose over $3,000. It is this spirit what makes this country great, turning something very tragic and sad into something productive and useful. The family sent thank you emails to the all neighbors and already thinking about ways to increase the activity to raise more money for charity and ways to involve local businesses in donations.

DipNetting.. An Alaskan Expereince

This is my fist time trying it. It is pretty cool!. It is an exclusive for Alaska residents only. So, sorry tourists, you are not allowed to do this. Using a dip net with a diameter of 4-5 ft and a long handle (25Ft) and a wader, you get into the ocean and just dip your net and wait for the salmon to get entangled. Once you feal the big shake twist your net and pull to the shore. At the shore you need to smack the salmon on the head to cause traumatic brain injury that will make the fish more co-operative!
Here I am doing exactly that. Actually I over did it and hit the poor fish repeately on the head till I heard someone shouting "are you making fish burger over there?"

Seagull and fish heads

The shores of the ocean are packed with these seagulls. They get attracted to places where fishing is going on. Most people will clean up the fish at the shores which leaves behind plenty of fish heads for these birds. They make the place look pretty, but they are very very noisy.

The U Pick Farm

This is a nice and fun thing to do. That is instead of going to the supermarket for vegetables you go to U pick farm. The drive to the farm is a joy in itself. Usually the whole family will go as the kids enjoy the walk in the farm and enjoy the actual picking of fresh vegetables. The owner of the farm has hotdogs and drinks which makes it more of a picnic than grocery shopping. The vegetables are fresh and cheap.

The Bennetts

"The BENNETTS, where the women are strong, The men are good looking and all the children are above average."
This interesting matt was at the enterance at the house of the Bennetts. Boyd and Shirly were very wellcoming when I visited their house at Eagle River where they host the table tennis club on Saterdays. Boyd, 78 yrs old, is the oldest table tennis player I know. His love for the game is amazing and his wife Shirly is always wellcoming with a big smile.
